It is with great sadness that we, at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU), have learned of the death of Caroline Drummond MBE, Chief Executive of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) after a short illness.

Caroline, who was awarded the MBE for services to the agriculture industry in 2009, served as a Governor of the RAU, then the Royal Agricultural College (RAC), from 2007 to 2013.

She was made an Honorary Fellow of the University in 2018 for her work as a passionate advocate of the greater public understanding of farming and of encouraging sustainable farming practices.

Professor Neil Ravenscroft, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the RAU, said: “All of us at the RAU were incredibly sad to hear of Caroline’s death. Throughout her long career with LEAF, she was widely trusted and always willing to take on even the trickiest issues faced in farming.

“She was a driving force – a knowledgeable, caring, and inspirational leader who dedicated her life to the agricultural industry and was a champion of sustainable farming. Many of us here at the RAU were privileged to work with her on numerous projects over the years and we will miss her very much. Our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.”
