Once you have outlined and thought through your business idea, you are going to want to “Try it” and we help provide you with opportunities to do just that! The RAU offers students, staff and recent alumni a range of support to help test their business ideas.
This may be through applying for a First Steps proof of concept fund grant or having a market stall at the RAU, matching you with a business mentor or selling your wares to the RAU community. If you join the RAU Entrepreneurs Society you can discuss your idea and get instant feedback and thoughts from fellow entrepreneurial members.
First Steps Fund
The First Steps Fund is a proof of concept fund for current RAU students, staff and recent alumni (up to 3 years). Applicants to the scheme can receive up to £250 to help them test their concept as well as access to an enterprise mentor.
Applications forms are available via Gateway or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once a student has a product or service offering ready, we can provide them with an opportunity to sell their wares on campus via a stand within our Atrium lounge area. This can provide them with vital market research feedback from their fellow students and staff members.
All our First Steps award winners are provided with the opportunity to work with an enterprise mentor. Our mentors are from a range of sectors, with varying skills and background. Our mentors will help their mentee with their business model and plan.
Idea to reality workshop
Our idea to reality workshop forms part of our Wednesday workshop series and is hosted by an external expert. The workshop will identify issues the entrepreneurs need to be aware of as they develop their concepts and provide them with actions to help them progress.
