Module content

  1. Nutrition and diet formulation for different species.
  2. The structure and importance of the industry in the UK, EU and World, with reference to key constraints on production, efficiency of resource use and product quality.
  3. Animal health and welfare.
  4. Production for a specific market.

Module outcomes

To achieve credit for this module, students must be able to:

  1. Discuss the comparative importance of the UK industry and recognise the constraints on production and position within the global market.
  2. Evaluate the suitability of a health plan required under current legislation and farm assurance protocols
  3. Formulate a feed ration for a particular livestock enterprise
  4. Interpret physical signs and key performance indicator data to assess the quality of animals
