Further information

After studying Archaeology at Durham University, Simon worked as a wine merchant before spending a year lambing ewes and drying grain on Cotswold farms. Further study at the Royal Agricultural College lead to employment as a land agent in 1991.  Simon is now sole principal of P.D. Carter (Chartered Surveyors & Land Agents) and advises farming and landowning clients on a range of matters including estate planning, estate survival, and where to educate their children.  A particular interest is in heritage property.

He started lecturing at the Royal Agricultural College in 2006.

In his spare time he fishes in the Western Isles, ‘runs’ after packs of foxhounds, and has been churchwarden of parish church of St. John Baptist in Cirencester since 2010 which has given him further detailed insight into the problems and costs of running historic buildings.

He set up the Cirencester Farmers’ Market in 1999.
