Become a multi-skilled graduate with a thorough grounding in agricultural and equine developments, equine science, business including marketing, finance, law and negotiating skills. You'll also have the chance to put your learning into practice during a work-based placement year.

Course overview

You will also delve into the changing dynamics of the UK horse industry, the second largest economy in the rural sector. Throughout the degree you will benefit from internationally recognised visiting speakers from all areas of the equine industry, and gain knowledge in international equine business and science, covering Northwest Europe, and the USA.

With a work placement built into the course and our powerful network of graduates it’s no wonder our students have gone on to secure work in the UK and abroad at prestigious companies such as Weatherbys, Volac International Dairy Nutrition, Haygain and Horse and Hound.

Work placement

In the third year, you will apply and develop your expertise and complete a 12-month period in the workplace. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a range of links within the growing equine, agriculture and business industries.

** We are reviewing aspects of this course ahead of the 2023/24 academic year to ensure we provide the best possible student experience. Where we plan to make changes which have a material impact on the course, we will communicate those to you as soon as they are available. **

Course content

We are currently finalising the information for courses offered for 2023 entry. Full details and programme specifications will be available in early 2023. You will benefit from a blend of modules that cover equine, agriculture and business delivered through lectures, seminars, tutorials, visiting speakers, case studies, laboratory practical classes and demonstrations. Modules are assessed through a range of methods, including essays, reports, case studies and presentations. There are timed examinations at the end of each semester.

Our students have benefitted from trips to leading racing businesses and organisations locally, in Southern Ireland and North West Europe gaining insight directly from the mouths of world-leading organisations.

More locally students have also taken advantage of equine organisations such as the famous Cheltenham Racecourse, and the Blue Cross Rescue Centre.

Being based in Gloucestershire you will be able to tap into a wealth of equine companies right on your doorstep and within the UK such as the British Racing School, Newmarket Equine Hospital, Kubler Racing, and the Blue Cross Rescue Centre.
