My placement experience
I decided to complete my placement at G’s Fresh because I have a genuine interest in the fresh produce industry; it’s so fast paced, demanding, and ever-changing, and I’d heard glowing reports of the company. I attended the RAU careers fair and after talking to G’s Fresh decided to send them my CV. We had a chat on the phone and they said I was so keen they’d like to offer me the placement!
I absolutely loved my placement. I loved working for G’s and I loved my role. My day-to-day responsibilities included: following up undespatched orders; arranging transport; ensuring orders are despatched on time; liaising with hauliers and production and harvest teams; and updating databases. I was involved in investigating why orders are undespatched from sites, and the frequency at which this occurs.
During my placement, I have been fortunate enough to visit multiple farms, factories, hauliers, packhouses, harvest rigs, plant nurseries, factories, and conferences – all of which I wouldn’t have been able to do without G’s Fresh.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I loved how busy and varied my role was. My favourite part of the job was meeting so many people in different roles and businesses every single day, and the fact that no two days were ever the same. The main challenge was learning how to manage my time and minimise my stress levels, and how to create solutions quickly – a very important lesson!
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt is that a business cannot work without effective communication.
I feel I have learnt how to be assertive and deal with major accounts, improved my interview skills, and gained so much experience with fresh produce and logistics. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt is that a business cannot work without effective communication.
I would really like to go on and work for G’s Fresh when I graduate.
