Rural Business Career Gateway Course

If you are a former or serving member of the armed forces or spouse looking at developing a follow-on career in management, this course has been designed specifically for those seeking to transition into agriculture, food and the wider land-based sector.

Location: Online and the Royal Agricultural University Campus

Duration: 2 weeks

Date of next course: 19-30 October 2020

Overview

Recent research has shown that veterans find access to information on suitable courses on land-based careers and education is challenging and unclear. This course is new and is one of several that will address what has been lacking in the resettlement system.

The RAU is proud to introduce this unique gateway course in partnership with RuRALink – a veteran-owned organisation created to provide consultancy services, career transition support and networking opportunities to ex-military personnel who aspire to work in the rural business sector.

The course will feature:

  • 2 week on-line preparation period
  • 2 week residential
  • Visits to rural businesses
  • Small study-groups in a course maximum number of 20

Requirements

No former business or agricultural/food experience is required. Prior experience leading small teams, writing reports and presenting oral briefs will be useful.

There are no specific academic requirements for personnel who have served in a leadership role at any rank. However delegates will be asked to complete written team exercises and to present back at an employer forum.

This course is suitable for anyone who has served in HM Forces. We are also keen that spouses apply.

Please email courses@ruralink.org.uk with any specific query.
