My RAU experience
I studied agriculture at the Royal Agricultural University, and feel that it set me a career in precision farming. The diversity of the course gave me a solid understanding of the agricultural industry as a whole, and allowed me to specialise in soil science and crop husbandry. During my course, I gained practical qualifications in machinery handling and pesticides through the University’s Rural Innovation Centre – which helped me to secure my 20-week placement on a large arable farm.
The RAU gave me a solid foundation in precision farming and crop nutrition on which to build my career.
What I gained from the RAU
In 2013, I graduated with a first class honours degree in Agriculture (Sustainable Soil Management) and was awarded the British Society for Soil Science Plaque. I joined Intelligent Precision Farming as a Precision Farming Account Manager, and am responsible for sales and support for the North of England, Scotland and Ireland. I manage precision farming accounts for 20,000 hectares of farmland; providing technical support and crop nutrition advice to farmers, organising sales meetings, carrying out research into precision farming, soil sampling fields, and mapping and setting up new farms.
The RAU gave me a solid foundation in precision farming and crop nutrition on which to build my career, and gave me the confidence to work with experienced farmers and agronomists.
