Overview

A course for the operator who requires training and certification in arboricultural climbing and rescue techniques. This detailed course gives in depth experience in the use of all equipment and the techniques required to be assessed for NPTC Certificate of Competence "Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue" This course covers the NPTC/City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue (0039-22).

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. Please be aware that to take this course, you must be physically fit and not suffering from vertigo or similar conditions. You must also be free from medication that could affect your safety. If you are a beginner climber it is recommended you do not book the next course (NPTC/City & Guilds Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw Using Free-fall Techniques - formerly CS39) until you have completed this course. Climbing trees is not suitable for everyone and the instructor may advise that more training is needed before undertaking the next stage.

Course Details

  • Inspection of equipment - LOLER '98
  • Climb tree with rope and harness
  • Conduct an aerial rescue
  • Use a hand saw in the tree

Other details:

  1. The first day of the course is classroom-based and practical and will involve climbing. Therefore boots with ankle support and long trousers will be required. Thereafter the course will be run offsite and you will be directed there from the classroom.
  2. If you require protective clothing, hire can be arranged through the centre office.
  3. Please bring lunch and beverages.
  4. A charge of £60 has already been levied on the cost of the course. If you wish to bring your own equipment you may do so but all climbing equipment should be accompanied by an up to date LOLER certificate and its use will be at the discretion of the instructor.

Please note:

It is advised that a minimum of two people must be present during all aerial work. One of the ground team must be available, competent and equipped to do an aerial rescue without delay.

Course Assessment Method

A certificate of competence will be issued on the successful completion of the NPTC assessment. Assessment is carried out by external assessors at a later date, usually organised during the course.
