Course overview

This degree course with a foundation year incorporates an extra year of study at the start of your course, so that you can progress with confidence. It will develop the skills you need for your later studies. It is particularly suitable if:

  • You don’t have the grades for immediate entry onto a three-year course
  • You have non-traditional qualifications or experience
  • You’re starting university after some time away from education
  • You’re looking for more support during the transition into university study

The BSc (Hons) in Agri-Food Business Management will position you to work in a range of roles in the extended food supply chain. Whether you want a career in corporate’s directing supply systems, working in a family business or, in SME’s refining delivery processes this course will support you to achieve your goals.

Core modules will give you a solid grounding in business while specialist modules will encourage you to explore food supply systems and their management in a wide range of contexts.

To support your personal development the course includes a free international study tour to explore how businesses around the world are approaching the changing global economy.

In addition to this trip you will attend networking events, gain contacts through our alumni network, and have the opportunity to take part in a range of additional trips and activities to broaden your perspective.

Upon successful completion of the degree you will also receive the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 6 Diploma in Management and Leadership and the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) Professional Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. Also, annual membership to CMI is free for one year after graduation.

Work placement

In the second year of the degree programme, you will apply and develop your expertise during a 15-week work placement. Not only could you find yourself working for prestigious companies in the UK or across the world, you will also develop your confidence and make a range of industry contacts.

International study tour

As part of the first year, 'Entrepreneur in Action' you will be taken on a free international study tour. In the last three years students have visited Spain, Bulgaria and Germany. During these study tours you will visit agri-entrepreneurs and their businesses to learn about how they operate and explore their differing approach to business.

For UK students (as of March 2020) a visa may not be required but this may change. For non UK/EU nationals (current Tier 4 visa students), the student will have to arrange their own visa.

Students who cannot attend the study tour gain access to entrepreneurs through our Growth Hub and Farm491 networks.
