Living costs in the UK
This page gives you information about some of the potential living costs in the UK as an international student.
Accommodation costs vary depending on location, room size and how you would like to cover day-to-day charges such as meals and bills (electricity, heating, internet, etc.).
If this is your first time living in the UK, we strongly recommend campus accommodation in one of our Halls of Residence. Rooms come fully-furnished and vary in size. Some also have the option of having your own bathroom inside the room (en-suite).
Self-catering allows you to cook your own meals and catered accommodation provides you with some or all of your meals from our dining hall. Food on campus is nutritious and varied with lots of international cuisines and can cater to any dietary requirement.
It is possible to live off campus also. This is usually in a house-share where you will rent one bedroom and share common living areas in the home including the kitchen for cooking your meals. With off campus living you will pay a monthly rent sum to the Landlord/lady and you will also pay for bills on top of this split between your housemates.
For more information about off-campus living from Urban Fox.
As an international student with a Tier 4 Visa it is possible for you to work part-time in the UK.
There is a restriction of working no more than 20 hours per week, however, while studying at the RAU, we would recommend that you work no more than 10 hours per week to allow you to focus on achieving highly on your course.
There are part time jobs available on campus and Cirencester has many shops, restaurants, cafes and bars where you will be able to find some work.
Tier 4 funding
As a requirement for a Tier 4 Visa, students must have a certain sum of money in their bank account to allow for living costs and expenses in the UK.
This sum is currently £9,185* for each year of study (i.e. 9 months per year). This does not include tuition fees and is subject to change according to the UK Visas and Immigration policy.
*This sum is applicable for institutions outside of London.
