Wellbeing and counselling
We want to make sure that your time at RAU is both rewarding and fulfilling. We all have times in life when we could do with a little extra support.
Whether you are finding your way with academic work, wondering what the next step should be or just trying to figure out how to get to the end of the week. We are here to support you when you need it. Don't wait until a problem has grown very serious - we would much rather you came when something is relatively minor, so that it can be resolved more quickly.
Wellbeing drop-in appointments
Wellbeing drop in appointments can help you to maintain good wellbeing and build skills to respond to the demands of university life. To access the drop in simply go to the Student Support Hub and speak to either the Student Support Services Manager or the Counselling, Health and Wellbeing Officer. Appointments last for up to 30 minutes and no issue is too big or small.
So if you just fancy a cuppa and a chat, or if you have questions about how to cope with uni life, you can drop in anytime during the day. Maybe you’re struggling to sleep, have fallen out with a flat mate or are negotiating financial and academic stress. Wellbeing drop-ins provide you with the ideas and resources you need to help you get the most out of uni. There are also a whole host of other people who can provide support and advice for different issues, so if we can’t help you, we will put you in touch with someone who can.
Counselling is a confidential space to talk about personal issues so you can understand them more clearly and find new ways to cope. Seeking counselling is about making a positive choice to get help by talking confidentially with a professionally-trained listener who has no other role in your life.
RAU in-house counsellor
To request a confidential in-house counselling appointment speak to the Counselling, Health and Wellbeing Officer (term time only) who will arrange a time for an initial consultation as soon as they can. During the consultation you will discuss what the issue is and how you might work together to establish new ways to cope or better understand things. If you decide you would like more ongoing sessions after this, there may be short wait as capacity is limited for ongoing sessions.
All RAU students have free access to Cotswold Counselling, an established charity that provides counselling to individuals and couples. Cotswold Counselling can provide long or short term counselling in their own premises in Cirencester. Appointments are available during the day as well as evenings and weekends. You will have a short conversation by phone then be booked with an appropriate counsellor according to your availability. All you need to do is call 01285 885830 Monday-Friday 10am-12pm and explain that you are a student at RAU.
Student Support Services Manager
The Student Support Services Manager provides an important link between the University-wide support structures. They should be your first point of contact for the majority of questions you may have. For example, you might be wondering what learning support is available to you, or you might be worried that the quality of your work is being effected by an issue outside of university. The Support Services Manager will be able to advise you and put you in touch with the right people to help.

Counselling, Health and Wellbeing Officer
Along with providing the in-house counselling service and drop in appointments; The Counselling, Health and Wellbeing Officer runs events and promotions to improve the general wellbeing of all students. So keep a look out for RAU participation in national campaigns such as Time to Talk day (raising awareness of Mental Health issues) and University’s Mental Health and Wellbeing day.
