At the forefront of agricultural education
The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) has been at the forefront of agricultural education and a key contributor to the land-based sector for more than 170 years. We pride ourselves in combining the knowledge and industry connections which stem from our rich heritage with an innovative, forward-thinking approach.
Graduates in high demand
Excellent links with industry ensure that our students are well placed to launch their careers within the land-based sector. Students are taught by academics who are experts in their fields, and guest lecturers who offer a wealth of industry knowledge. 93%* of our graduates are in employment or further study six months after leaving the RAU.

Stunning campus and community
Set in 25 acres of Cotswold countryside, with 491 hectares of nearby farmland, ours is a close-knit community of students and staff, all dedicated to making a difference. Known as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’, Cirencester is a thriving town with a buzzing social scene and great nightlife, within 40 minutes of Cheltenham, whose racecourse and food, science and literature festivals are world famous. It's easy to see why so many students never want to leave Cirencester – even after graduating.
High calibre teaching
The RAU gives students access to top class academics who are experts in their field. Often called upon by the national media for their expert opinion on a range of topical issues and policies, their impact can be felt across the agricultural sector. A silver TEF award reflects the RAU’s commitment to excellence in education and the student experience.
Budding entrepreneurs benefit from the bountiful knowledge and experience of their lecturers, and the strong industry links the University has carefully cultivated over the years. The RAU is proud to have a well-established and award-winning Enterprise Programme of extra-curricular activities, including talks from inspirational guest speakers, workshops and mentoring opportunities, and the annual Grand Idea business competition.
A global alumni community
Students joining the 17,000-strong global alumni network follow in the distinguished footsteps of celebrities, politicians, business people, and Olympic athletes. Our powerful network of alumni span the globe, and offer fantastic opportunities for socialising, networking, and professional development – and are always keen to support our students in their journey to success.
Royal seal of approval
Queen Victoria granted a Royal Charter to the College in 1845 and sovereigns have been patrons ever since, visiting the institution in every reign. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales became President in 1982 and recently presented awards to students at graduation.
