From our new Land Laboratories and Experimental Barn to Living Laboratory and field trial sites, we are proud of our range of teaching and research facilities, enabling high-quality learning experiences and high-impact research.
Land Laboratories
Our new Land Laboratories consist of a variety of bespoke and dedicated laboratory spaces, designed to ensure a first-rate learning and research environment.
Analytical Laboratory
A dedicated clean laboratory containing specialised analytical equipment, including an AA spectrometer, Calorimeter and CNS Elementar El Vario Cube, for the analysis of samples, including soil, plant and wool.
Balance Laboratory
A dedicated small laboratory for the weighing of prepared samples on high-precision balances, ahead of analysis.
Clean Project Laboratory and Portable X-Ray Fluorescence Machine (pXRF) Suite
A dedicated laboratory for small-scale clean work and pXRF operation for the elemental analysis of dense samples.
Field Science Laboratory
A large, combined wet and dirty, multi-functional laboratory with flexible workspace, predominantly used for agronomy and agricultural experiments, including soil analysis, small-scale dissections and in-vitro experiments.
Genetics Laboratory
A dedicated clean laboratory for the preparation and analysis of genetic material, which includes and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment.
Microbiology Laboratory
A clean laboratory specialising in microbiology, including a CAT II cabinet and horizontal laminar flow hood.
The Land Laboratories also facilitate mobile soil analytical testing equipment, including Portable X-Ray Fluorescence Machine (pXRF) and GASMET, with the Laboratory Team able to support or undertake soil, crop or nutritional analysis, as well as fauna and flora sampling.
Experimental Barn
Our Experimental Barn is a large, multi-functional space, lending itself particularly to teaching and large-scale research activities, including large animal dissections, crop harvest analysis and large-scale plant pot trial processing, due to the the open nature of the space.
Living Laboratory
Our experimental field space used for plot trials, data collection and teaching. It is in close proximity to the Land Laboratories and Experimental Barn.
We also have collaborative access to FWAGs GREAT Market Garden Project at the RAU site – a seven-acre market garden which adopts the Zerodig method.
Fieldwork
In addition to the Living Laboratory and FWAGs GREAT Market Garden Project at the RAU site, we have access to a range of additional habitats and environments that can be utilised for experimental purposes, including arable, woodland and grassland.

Benefit from practical learning space right on your doorstep.
Vineyard
We have our very own vineyard where the grapes are grown that go into making the award winning Cotswold Hills wine.
