Applying to the RAU

An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent qualification is essential if your first language is not English.

What are the IELTS criteria?

IELTS has many test centres with many test dates across the globe. To find out more about the qualifications and a test centre near you, click here to visit the IELTS website. 

If you have been educated in English and either have a country specific language test or international English language test, this may be accepted for admission to a course. To discuss your English language qualification please contact admissions@rau.ac.uk.  

Our IELTS requirements are:

  • Undergraduate courses: a minimum score of 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any band
  • Postgraduate taught courses: a minimum score of 6.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any band
  • Postgraduate research: a minimum score of 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in Writing and no less than 5.5 in any other band

Undergraduate applications

All undergraduate applications must be made through the UCAS system (Universities & Colleges Admissions Service).

To start the application process: go to the undergraduate courses page and select the course that you wish to apply for. At the bottom of the selected course page there is a section called 'Apply now' that will take you through to the correct page on the UCAS website though which you can make your application.

A personal statement is an essential part of your application. Remember to share with us your goals, dreams, future plans, along with everything you have achieved. Don't be shy!

Postgraduate applications

Applications for our postgraduate courses can be made online from this website. Visit the postgraduate courses page and select the course that you wish to study. At the bottom of the course page there is a section called 'Apply now' where you can apply.

Research applications

For those wishing to undertake postgraduate research degrees (either MScR or PhD) we require a research proposal, a CV and evidence of funding. Please email these to admissions@rau.ac.uk.
