My RAU experience
I joined the RAU through Clearing, just one short month before freshers started. When I left school, the RAU wasn't even on the cards - I have all science and maths A-levels and never thought of agriculture as something for me. However, an lnstagram ad and an open morning really opened my eyes to a world I hadn't known existed! I chose to study Rural Land Management because it was so broad - not coming from a farming background I thought it would tick all the boxes and it definitely did.
A highlight was the meeting the President of the RICS Association in my 3rd year of studying. This was an incredibly inspiring talk form a highly experienced professional in our industry.
For me, the people were what made the RAU so special. I made the most incredible friends while studying - friends that I will have for life.
What I gained from the RAU
I did my work experience placements with multiple companies and ended up landing a job! I will be a graduate land agent for Brown & Co in September. The course at RAU has set me up with the knowledge I need to confidently start my professional carer in the rural industry.
To any students thinking of applying to the RAU I would say - why not? You get to live in the most beautiful part of the country for a few years and study a subject so broad that you will find your niche. RAU has such a wide range of experience lecturers who not only excel at teaching, they have years of experience in the field and are always more than happy to give practical advice which I believe has made the transition into a professional workplace far easier for me.
