My RAU experience

I had previously attended Hartpury College where I studied equine business and I wanted to broaden my knowledge of the subject, so I decided to join the RAU and study an Equine degree.

As I came from living in at Hartpury College it was another few years of living away for me, however the RAU was very welcoming and homely.  I settled in very well and I enjoyed being surrounded by people with similar interests and hobbies.

A real highlight for me was my livestock module as I felt it taught us real skills that we could put into practice. It really helped you see the inner workings of a farming business.

What I gained from the RAU

The RAU were an amazing help with finding my 15 week work placement. I worked on a dairy farm and absolutely had the most eye opening educational and fun experience! I now work at the same dairy farm and believe the livestock module really prepared me well. Not only did it teach me about dairy farm systems, but also a whole range of others, which is really beneficial to know when in that general line of work.

To any potential students thinking of studying at the RAU I would say definitely go for it if you are wanting a real insight into all of the aspects of the agricultural sector.  Take time to pick your placement, as I now work at my placement and it was the absolute best experience I’ve had in farm work, so it’s an important decision and can make a real difference to your career.
