My RAU experience

I was already set on studying Real Estate as I knew it was the right course for me and aligned with the career I wanted to pursue. The RAU was my first and only choice because of its campus, smaller size and the sense of community it offered, I knew I would be able to study and socialise in an environment where I would be supported and surrounded by like-minded people.

What I enjoyed most about studying at RAU was the personal university experience. You get to know your lecturers and they get to know you, making it easy to ask questions and get involved, particularly in smaller course groups like Real Estate. Everyone practically knows everyone, creating a friendly and safe environment where I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime.

One of my highlights from my course was a trip we took during the residential agency module in second year to a local residential development. It was a winter morning, and we ended up finishing the lecture in a coffee house with open discussions over hot chocolate. As we were a small group, it was a fun and relaxed way to learn and made a nice change from the usual lecture room!

 

What I gained from the RAU 

The course prepared me well for my career, particularly as it is RICS accredited, allowing me to progress towards my APC and professional qualification from the start of my career. The mandatory work placement was also valuable, as employers look for practical experience when recruiting. 

During my first year, I completed a summer internship with Fisher German, followed by a two-week residential agency placement at Lee Shaw as part of my course in second year. Both gave me valuable industry experience, strengthened my CV and helped me build connections, ultimately improving my employability and supporting me in securing my graduate role.  I am now a Graduate Surveyor within the Infrastructure team at Fisher German.

To any students thinking of joining the RAU, I would definitely recommend the Real Estate course to anyone interested in the industry. The smaller class sizes create a personal learning environment, with plenty of opportunities to get involved and learn from your lecturers and course mates. The RAU also has a strong reputation within the Real Estate and Rural Land Management industries and is well connected with employers. Events such as the annual careers fair provide a great opportunity to meet potential employers.
