Introduction

The Royal Agricultural University is situated on the outskirts of the market town of Cirencester. During the summer months, accommodation is available for short breaks. All year round, the University is available for weddings, functions, parties and day meetings. There are a number of ground floor rooms located close to the dining areas and accessible meeting, function rooms and lecture theatres available for hire.

Pre-arrival

  • Text, phone and email are available.
  • Information is available in alternative formats to include large print.
  • Cirencester is our nearest town which is a mile away.
  • Shop-mobility schemes can be found in Cheltenham, Swindon and Gloucester.
  • RADAR toilets are situated in the Brewery Car Park in Cirencester.

Arrival & car parking facilities

  • Car parking is available.
  • There are over 550 car parking spaces, additional accessible parking can be made available closer to strategic buildings where required.
  • Porterage assistance from the car park to the entrance can be offered upon request.
  • There are drop off points close to the buildings.
  • The Stroud Road car park is tarmacked.
  • The Tetbury Road car park is tarmacked.
  • There are speed bumps at both Stroud Road and Tetbury Road entrances.
  • Provision for assistance dogs can be made by prior arrangement.
  • There are benches situated at various points around the campus.
  • The car park and signage is well lit at night.
  • There are two steps into the Front Reception and there is a slight lip into the Accommodation Office.
  • The surface and route from the Quad to both the Front Reception and Porters Lodge is level.
  • Wheelchair access to the Main Building is available from the Quad.

Main entrance and reception

  • The Stroud Road entrance is the most accessible entrance.
  • A portable hearing loop system is available upon request.
  • Music can be turned down on request.
  • Additional keys to rooms or facilities are available on request.
  • A familiarisation tour or escorted visit is available on request.
  • The main entrance doors are single leaf.
  • The Porters Lodge is manned between 08.00 and 20.00.
  • There are steps up to Front Reception and another from there to the rest of the building.
  • Provision for assistance dogs can be made by prior arrangement.
  • There is a colour contrast between critical surfaces.

Public areas - hall, stairs, landing, corridors etc

  • There are automatic doors at the rear of the Main Building, Atrium, Library, Frank Garner Lecture Block and the Sir Emrys Jones Centre.
  • The remainder of the doors are manual.
  • There are either mats or carpets at the entrances.
  • Provision for assistance dogs is available by prior arrangement.
  • There are colour contrasts between critical areas.
  • There are accessible toilets in the Main Building, Boutflour Hall, Frank Garner Lecture Block, Sir Emrys Jones Centre and the Library.

Public areas - sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

  • There are automatic doors at the rear of the Main Building, Atrium, Library, Frank Garner Lecture Block and the Sir Emrys Jones Centre.
  • The remainder of the doors are manual.
  • There is a public telephone in the George Wing.
  • There is seating in public areas.
  • Provision for assistance dogs can be made by prior arrangement.
  • The accessible toilets are all on the ground floor and in the Main Building, Boutflour Hall, Frank Garner Lecture Block, Sir Emrys Jones Centre and the Library.
  • Public areas on the ground and first floor are accessible only by steps and have handrails.
  • Entrances with steps can be ramped.
  • There are various different floor types, which are tiled, carpeted or wooden.

Public WCs

  • Accessible public WCs are located on the ground floor of the Main Building, near the front reception, in the Boutflour Hall, in the Sir Emrys Jones Centre, in the Frank Garner Lecture Block and in the Library.
  • Each toilet has an emergency pull-cord.
  • Each toilet has tiled flooring.

Restaurant, bar & bar area, take-away & cafe

  • Special dietary requirements can be catered for by prior arrangement.
  • Table service is available upon request.
  • Seating and tables are moveable.
  • The tables do not have central support.
  • The chairs do not have arms.
  • Chairs with arms are available on request.
  • The toilets next to the dining hall are not accessible, but there is an accessible toilet near the front reception or in the front reception of the Boutflour Hall.
  • There are automatic doors leading into the atrium cafe with an accessible toilet next door in the Sir Emrys Jones Centre.

Shop

  • The entrance to the shop is level and has double doors.
  • The counter height is approximately 85cm.
  • The price labels are displayed on the shelves which are at various heights.
  • The shop is approximately 150 yards from the Porters Lodge and is on a level route.

Leisure facilities

  • There are no barriers at the gym entrance.
  • The Stroud Road car park is the nearest to the gym.
  • The entrance to the gym is tarmacked.
  • The gym is well lit.
  • There is a contrast in colour of critical surfaces.

Outdoor facilities

  • There are seats and benches around the RAU campus.
  • The outside areas are predominantly grass or tarmac.

Conference & meeting rooms, banqueting

  • The entrance to the Bathurst Wing is flat but there is a step which can be ramped leading to meeting rooms.
  • Parking is in the Stroud Road car park, which is located close to the buildings.
  • A portable looping system is available on request.
  • There are accessible toilets in the Frank Garner Lecture Block, Boutflour Hall, Sir Emrys Jones Centre, Library and the Main Building.

Bedrooms & sleeping areas

  • Ground floor, accessible bedrooms are available during the vacation period.
  • These bedrooms have carpeted floor and non-slip surfaces in the shower.
  • The accessible rooms have chairs in the showers and an emergency pull cord.
  • The kettles are cordless.
  • All beds are single.
  • Print can be made available in different formats upon request.
  • Staff assistance and familiarisation tours are offered upon request.
  • Allergies can be catered for by prior arrangement.
  • Provision for assistance dogs can be made by prior arrangement.
  • Fridges for medication are available on request.
  • Accessible bedrooms have a flashing fire alarm system.

Bathroom, shower-room & WC (ensuite or shared)

  • All accessible rooms are ensuite.
  • There are emergency pull-cords in each bedroom.
  • There are chairs in the shower rooms.
  • Toilet riser available on request.
  • The sinks are lower.
  • The floors in the shower rooms are non-slip.

Grounds and gardens

  • The grounds are predominantly tarmacked or grassed.
  • The ground is level.
  • There are benches situated around the campus.
