  1. Put key dates in the calendar - add UCAS deadlines, open days, personal statement milestones and student finance dates to a shared calendar so nothing is missed.
  2. Set aside time for university research - spend time together comparing courses, entry requirements, placement opportunities and graduate outcomes.
  3. Help organise university visits - book open days early, plan travel, and encourage your young person to prepare questions for staff and current students.
  4. Encourage them to keep an achievements log - suggest they make a note of work experience, volunteering, part-time jobs, leaderships roles, awards and extracurricular activities.
  5. Read their personal statement draft - check for spelling , grammar and clarity, and ask questions that encourage them to reflect on their experiences and skills. 
  6. Create a quiet space to application work - help them find regular, distraction-free time to work on their application.
  7. Talk through course choices - ask practical questions about course content, location, entry requirements and future career options.
  8. Encourage them to check their UCAS account regularly - remind them to log in frequently so they don't miss important updates or deadlines.
  9. Help them understand the funding available - explore student finance, scholarships and bursaries together to help them plan ahead and feel confident about the costs involved.
