My RAU experience
I chose to study at the RAU due to it being a smaller campus with smaller classes, whilst still getting the expertise within your lectures. The opportunity to specialise within a degree and getting integrated learning of Science and Business meant I did not just have to choose one route to go down, or limit what I wanted to learn.
I found the wealth of knowledge within a small equine team at the RAU to be incredible! The lecturers and the Student Support Team have been a lifeline specially through my dissertation. You have endless support and you never feel alone. There is always someone around to help and guide you to be the best you can be.
The highlight of my course was easily the opportunity to go to Ireland. It was amazing to see behind the scenes of so many places, and having world class industry leaders in bloodstock, breeding, trainers and owners speak to you is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I will always be grateful for the Ireland trip, as if that were not an option, I would not be in the job I have today.
What I gained from the RAU
My course found me my current role! The endless amount of information provided by the RAU equine team, the Ireland trip, and guest speakers who provided an insight into a working industry, have all given me a leg up in interviews by being able to apply what I’ve learnt to a real-life industry.
When on the Ireland trip I was told about the ITBA (Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association) internship. Now, I am proud to have been selected to take part and grow my knowledge in Ireland, where I will be focusing on Marketing, and how we can reduce the challenges next gen breeders may face.
The RAU has been so supportive, especially my lecturer and dissertation supervisor, Tracy Bye. I cannot thank Tracy enough for everything that has been done for me. Without Tracy I would not have a degree, let alone a prestigious internship in Ireland!
If you’re thinking about coming to study at the RAU I would say ‘GO FOR IT!’ My time spent at RAU has been the best years of my life. I have made friends for life and contacts that will help me carve my future. Coming to the RAU was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. So, put in that application - you won’t regret it!
