My RAU experience
I chose to come to the RAU because I wanted to study a course that gave me a clear direction post university. The RAU is well regarded within the land and property industry and as a RICS accredited degree it opens up an infinite number of doors in regards to graduate schemes.
I am enjoying how varied the course is. It gives students a wide understanding of many subject matters; whether that be business and accounting, law, valuation or agriculture just to name a few. I recently had the opportunity to visit Stonegate’s main egg packaging facility in Chippenham. It was absolutely fascinating to see this stage of the production process first hand, learn about their corporate strategy, and sample some incredible egg-based dishes. Whenever I feel stuck on an assignment the lecturers are always incredibly approachable and willing to support you in order to achieve the best possible mark you can.
What I gained from the RAU
I did my work placement at Grosvenor Property. The thing I enjoyed most was the opportunity to gain insight into how a prime, mixed-use portfolio was adapting its strategy and asset mix in a post-COVID world. It was fascinating to see how such a prestigious company is evolving to meet new challenges and opportunities. I learned during my placement the importance of balancing heritage and innovation within property management. Grosvenor’s approach to modernising assets while preserving their historical value gave me a whole new perspective on long-term asset stewardship and sustainable development.
I have recently accepted a commercial real estate placement at Savills, London. The RAU careers team supported me with 1-1 sessions on preparing my CV, ensuring it was more structured and professionally written, which I have no doubt significantly enhanced my application.
To any prospective student considering studying land and property at the RAU I would say go for it! It’s a fantastic and highly employable course, but remember—you get out of university what you put in. So dive in and make the most of everything the course and university has to offer.
