Transcript of Placements video

Undertaking a placement gives a chance to students to experience real world life. It gives them a chance to show those transferable skills and increase their employability.

I did my work placement at Wild Hogs Hedgehog Rescue in Frampton on Severn. So I did my work placement at a local livery yard. I did my work placement at Trent Park Equestrian Centre.

I did my work placement with British Airways.

Most of our undergraduate students will undertake an industry placement in their second year. They also have the option to do a placement year should they wish.

I absolutely loved it. So the placement was only meant to be for about a month and then I ended up staying for two years. I enjoyed all aspects of working in a wildlife rehabilitation. The careers team helped me create my CV and they also put up some mock interviews so that really helped me through the process of finding a placement.

I absolutely loved it. I did general yard duties and then I'd also do two hours of training every day during the week for my BHS qualifications.

I worked in the customer sustainability team, I also worked in the customer accessibility team. It was a fantastic year. You take all the learning you've learned in a school setting into a real life real world professional setting.

Placements, especially placement years, our students have found incredibly rewarding and massively helped with their final year studies especially in their assignments as it provides the chance to give real examples. Most employers now require some level of industry experience as well as a degree.

I would say having a placement is just about the best thing you can do for your professional development.

Really valuable, it gave me insights into the type of job I'd like to do. It made really useful contacts that I'm still using today.

I've learned to network, meet people, and I've been lucky enough to be given an opportunity to come back to British Airways if I want to, so it's been fantastic.
