RAU Residential Summer School

Are you interested in studying in the UK and experiencing British university life firsthand? The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) is delighted to launch its new Residential Summer School, a two-week programme hosted at our historic Cirencester campus, in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds.

This immersive programme offers the perfect opportunity to expand your academic horizons, explore future study options, and connect with like-minded students from around the world.

The programme includes a shared core of cultural and academic activities with three specialist subject routes to choose from:

1. Equine Science and Industry

2. Agriculture and Food Systems

3. Land, Property and Conservation

All routes include additional shared activities and excursions including a group visit to Diddly Squat Farm Shop in Chipping Norton, offering a modern and media-influenced perspective on rural enterprise, food retail, and British farming culture.

Equine Science and Industry

This route will feature a masterclass in horse brain dissection, an interactive session in equine anatomy and physiology, and visits to active training yards. Additional trips will also include visiting Cheltenham Racecourse, Royal Mews in London and an additional Equine event to be confirmed.

This pathway links with our Graduate Diploma in Equine* and our MSc by Research.

Agriculture and Food Systems 

This route will include a regenerative farming field lab, an agri-tech demonstration experience, and a visit to a working dairy or arable operation. Additional trips will also include a visit to a commercial farm, a food processing site tour and attendance at a rural event, such as the Cotswold Show.

This pathway links with a number of our Agriculture masters programmes, such as MSc Agricultural Technology and InnovationMSc Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security and MSc Agroecology.

Land, Property and Conservation 

This route will include a practical conservation workshop, guided tours of Cotswold estates, and sessions on sustainable land and property management. Additional trips will also include a visit to Royal Mews in London.

This pathway links with our Land & Property courses, including MSc Real EstateMSc Rural Estate Management and MSc by Research.

Explore the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is a picturesque region in south-central England, known for its rolling hills, charming stone villages, and idyllic countryside. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it offers a quintessentially English experience with historic market towns, cozy pubs, and scenic walking trails. The honey-colored limestone buildings and timeless atmosphere make the Cotswolds a favorite destination for visitors seeking tranquility and rural charm. 

There will also be a range of optional social events such as a quiz night, pub visit, and a trip to Cirencester Parish Church on the Sunday.

 

How much does it cost?

The full cost of the two-week programme is £5,500.

Applicants from RAU partner institutions will receive priority consideration and a 20% discount on fees. Eligibility for this offer will be assessed during the application process.

 

What are the entry requirements?

  • Aged 18+
  • Currently studying or recently graduated from an undergraduate programme 
  • For international applicants:
    • IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each component (or equivalent)
    • A standard visitor visa may be required; visit the gov.uk website for more details. Please check the eligibility criteria depending on your personal circumstances, and follow the guidance listed.
