Paying your undergraduate tuition and accommodation fees

We understand that managing your finances can seem like a daunting and complicated process - but it need not be and you don’t have to figure it out alone. The Student Fees team is here to help.

Determining your fee status

On receipt of your application, the University will assess the level of fees that you'll be required to pay during your study. To enable the University to determine your classification status for fees purposes as either UK or overseas/international fee paying student we may ask you to provide the following information:

  • Your nationality
  • The nationality of both of your parents
  • Date of arrival in the UK (prior to the start of the course)
  • Your immigration status in the UK
  • The place and country where you have lived in the past three years
  • The place and country where your parents have lived in the past three years
  • In certain cases, when a fee status assessment cannot be completed on the information above, we may ask you to complete a fee status assessment questionnaire which can be accessed from the applicant portal (myRAU)

Further information on fee status can be found on the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) website.

Ways to pay your accommodation fees

You need to apply for your University accommodationThe accommodation fees are shown on this page and depend on the type of room and whether you are paying for your food from The Restaurant (half board: breakfast and dinner).

Instructions on how to pay your University accommodation fees are below. The fees are the same for all students but how you pay them depends on whether you are classified as a UK or overseas/international student.

If you are renting a property from a private landlord, then this does not apply to you. However, students are advised to speak to the University Student Lettings team for general advice about safe renting.

If you are taking out a student loan from Student Finance England / Scotland / Wales / Northern Ireland, then the living costs element will be paid directly to you.

Your maintenance loan will be paid into your bank account (the one you provided details for during your application) once you have fully registered on your course. As this payment doesn't usually happen on your first day at the RAU, we recommend that you make sure you've budgeted enough money for your first one or two weeks.

Your maintenance loan will be paid in three termly installments (October, January and April).

  • Annually in advance by debit or credit card. Payable in September for October course starts (January for February start dates). Payments are made via the Accommodation Hub

You will need to log on to the Accommodation Hub and set up your payments. This should be completed at the same time as accepting your accommodation offer. Payments are scheduled and not taken immediately (unless you are late in setting up your payments). If you are in receipt of a maintenance loan, there will be the option to request that the dates are adjusted to coincide with the scheduled payments dates from your student loans company. You must make arrangements to pay for your accommodation before you arrive at the RAU. If you are having difficulties in making payment then please contact studentfees@rau.ac.uk.
