TransformDairyNet is a new 26 multi-actor project across Europe in which Dr Jessica Stokes, Associate Professor in Farm Animal Welfare Science and Policy, is co-coordinating with UCD to upscale cow-calf dairy systems across Europe. The first facilitation training for the project took place at the Royal Agricultural University in July 2024.

The facilitators will now mobilise groups of current and curious cow-calf dairy farmers to work together to share existing practice and develop new knowledge through farmer-led innovation.

A pan industry group called “Controlling ANTiparasitic resistance in Equines Responsibly (CANTER)”, led by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and a group of stakeholder vets, academics and the industry, has developed and published a set of best practice guidelines on sustainable parasite control for horses in order to slow down the development of anthelmintic resistance.

Dr Simon Daniels, Associate Professor Equine Management and Science, has been involved since the outset of this journey in 2021 when the pan industry group led by the VMD was formed.

Asahi UK and the Worshipful Company of Brewers have teamed up with the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) and the University of Warwick to fund two PhD research projects looking at how to develop sustainable approaches to British hop production in a bid to stop the further demise of the UK’s hop growing industry.

Hops are a lesser-known UK crop, which is often not talked about, but they are a vital ingredient in our much-loved British beers, providing the bitterness and more complex fruity and floral flavours.

Samwel Nangiria Taresero, a Maasai community leader, and the Curator of the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) recently visited the RAU to exchange ideas about the precarity of community land rights both in England and Tanzania.
