Paying your postgraduate tuition and accommodation fees

We understand that managing your finances can seem like a daunting and complicated process - but it need not be and you don't have to figure it out alone. The Student Fees team is here to help.

Ways to pay your tuition fees

The University does not automatically send out invoices to students for payment of tuition fees but they can be requested. The tuition fees and the balance outstanding due for payment are shown when you log on to your online self-registration on the Student Portal.

The Student Portal opens in the September before you start at the RAU (or January if you are starting in February) for self-registration. Further information about completing your online self-registration will be sent to you when the Student Portal opens. You should log on to the Student Portal using the Student ID that you received in your offer letter.

It is important that you make sure this is completed before you arrive at the RAU.

Determining your student status

On receipt of your application, the University will assess the level of fees that you'll be required to pay during your study. To enable the University to determine your classification status for fees purposes as either a UK or overseas/international fee paying student we may ask you to provide the following information:

  • Your nationality
  • The nationality of both of your parents
  • Date of arrival in the UK (prior to the start of the course)
  • Your immigration status in the UK
  • The place and country where you have lived in the past three years
  • The place and country where your parents have lived in the past three years
  • In certain cases, when a fee status assessment cannot be completed on the information above, we may ask you to complete this full fee status questionnaire

Read our fee status questionnaire guidance for help with completing your fee status questionnaire.

Further information on fee status can be found on the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) website.

Remember, if you wish us to discuss your finances with someone else i.e. Parent/Guardian/Sponsor, you must email the Student Fees department on in advance to give your written authorisation.

Due to the UK's strict anti-money laundering regulations:

  1. The RAU is unable to accept cash for any fees payment
  2. Payments which are received by the RAU from a different bank account/payer, other than the applicant's, will need to declare by email the payer's connection to the applicant

Any refunds given must be returned to the originating bank account or can be held over to reduce the following year’s fees.

Please ensure that you have read and understood the terms and conditions for payment of fees policy and the refund policy. Please see Student Finance Policies.
